Commercially-Supplied Binders for Plasma Cobalamin (Vitamin B12), Analysis-’ ‘Punt led” Intrinsic Factor, “Cobinamide’ ‘-Blocked R-Protein Binder, and Non-purified Intrinsic Factor-R-Protein Binder-Compared to Microbiological Assay
Recent evidence (Kolhouse et aL, N. EngI. J. Med. 299: 785-792, 1978) demonstrates that commercial cobalamin (Vitamin B12) radioassay kits contain nonspecific R-protein bindingagents thatcan give falsely normal results in patients who are actually cobalamin deficient. We tested three kits:with“purified” intrinsic factor as the binder, with intrinsic factor and the nonspecific R-protein sites bl...
متن کاملAn assay for intrinsic factor based on blocking of the R binder of gastric juice by cobinamide.
An in vitro assay for measurement of gastric juice intrinsic factor (IF) was developed based on the ability of the cobinamide (Cbi) [(CN, OH) Cbi] to bind to the gastric juice R-type binders of cobalamin (Cbl) and not to the IF binder. Subsequently added radioactive Cbl, CN-[57Co] Cbl, binds only to the IF binders and allows for direct measurement of this Cbl binding protein. This Cbi blocking ...
متن کاملMultiple congenital coagulation deficiencies.
A 6-week-old infant is presented who suffered from a congenital haemorrhagic disorder which caused death from subdural haemorrhage following mild trauma. Haematological investigation revealed deficiencies of factor VII and Christmas factor. Prower-Stuart factor was probably also deficient although investigation of this clotting factor was carried out only on serum obtained at necropsy.
متن کاملDeficiencies of combined rank tests
Ahs/rcrct: Oneand two sample problems are considered which are divided into subproblems, for each of which a separate rank statistic is obtained. The best combination of these statistics is then compared to the ordinary undivided rank statistic. One easily sees that, under natural conditions, splitting causes no first order efficiency loss. Hence it becomes interestmg to derive second order res...
متن کاملLarge deletions play a minor but essential role in congenital coagulation factor VII and X deficiencies.
UNLABELLED Congenital factor VII (FVII) and factor X (FX) deficiencies belong to the group of rare bleeding disorders which may occur in separate or combined forms since both the F7 and F10 genes are located in close proximity on the distal long arm of chromosome 13 (13q34). We here present data of 192 consecutive index cases with FVII and/or FX deficiency. 10 novel and 53 recurrent sequence al...
